To celebrate the Tour de Yorkshire the Sport and Active Lifestyles team worked with Leeds BMX Club and Parks and Open spaces to organise the “Tour de Middleton”. Young people from across the city came and took part in a guided mountain bike ride through the park, showcasing some of the newly finished trails and loops.
Jeremy Hayes for Leeds BMX club commented that it was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the park as a Cycling venue; the young people involved had a lot of fun and were active throughout the day.
At the Tour de Yorkshire itself – spectator support across the three days was immense; from North to South, East to West. Cyclists saw Beverley’s town centre, Otley, Doncaster, Helmsley, the North York Moors National Park, Middlesbrough, Tadcaster, Knaresborough, Conisbrough, Scarborough, Settle and everywhere in between, there were bikes, bunting, festivals, land art and incredible crowds.
