Fearnville Leisure Centre top up swimming lessons

Leeds City Council’s, Active Lifestyles Officers have been successful in securing some funding from the Inner East Extended Services cluster activity fund. The funding was used to target year five and six students at local primary schools in the Inner East, who hadn’t achieved their 25 metres within the curriculum time swimming lessons.

It was identified many year five and six students go onto high school unable to swim, these top up sessions were there to give students the further opportunity to learn to swim after their school lessons had come to an end. The top up swimming lessons were delivered at Fearnville Leisure Centre over February half term and were very popular with 24 young people attending each of  the five days.

The students were given 30 minutes of intense swimming lessons in two groups 12 and another 30 minutes to have a fun swim

Extended Services Inner East found this project such a success that they have provided further funding to run some more top up lessons later this year.
