Young people from the Inner South locality (Holbeck & Beeston) have engaged in a number of Pop Up Sports Clubs over the last month. Sports coaches from the Sport and Active Lifestyles Team, in Leeds City Council, have delivered a whole host of sessions ranging from Boxing to Golf and Football to Dance. The sessions have been delivered in a number of locations including local parks, schools, youth centres and multi use games areas. The scheme has been funded by the Inner South Area Committee and has provided opportunities for young people 8 – 17 years of age to engage in both sports and volunteering roles locally.
The Pop Up Sports Clubs were supported by a number of young leaders and aspiring coaches; it provided a platform for them to be mentored and hone their skills.
Neil Jones Active Sports Officer; Commented “The Pop Up Sports Club concept is an innovative way of engaging young people in Sports Coaching sessions in their own environment. This allows young people to participate and removes associated barriers in terms of access to provision and inequalities that exist in relation to high quality coaching”.
