Club Development for the West / North West has worked closely with local sports clubs and volunteers, to provide a range of courses and qualifications for club volunteers through their coaching bursary.
The bursary funded by the Inner West and the Outer North West area committees as well as Otley Town Council has supported 11 sports clubs and 10 volunteers directly, with another 30 volunteers attending courses supported by the bursary.
The bursary has provided both financial support and advice for candidates through a personal development plan managed by club development. Individuals have qualified in a range of qualifications including: Girls refereeing, Handball, Boxercise, Kick-boxercise, Cricket level 1 & 2, Level 2 Cycling, and Fitness & Health level 3.
Two of the sports clubs with support from the bursary have run child protection & 1st aid courses for their own volunteers, with bursary students also attending to enhance their qualifications, with a third club running a gymnastics proficiency award for 11 volunteers.
All of the qualified bursary students are now actively using their qualifications in their clubs to help other young people progress in their chosen sport.
Previous bursaries such as Matthew who secured a scholarship took his level 1 football coaching certificate around a year ago is currently working in Mexico City coaching football to young people at an American school. He has just turned 19 and is there until June!
