Outer North West Area Committee have joined the Inner West Area Committee and Otley Town Council in confirming funding for young sport volunteers by supporting a Coaching Bursary managed by Club Development.
The aim of the Bursary is to identify young sport leaders from sports clubs who are interested in sport on a voluntary basis, and wish to work within their community and club.
The Young leaders will be able to apply for both financial and mentoring support in achieving sporting qualifications, either in coaching or officiating. Candidates will be chosen to receive support which will provide professional advice in the form of a personal development plan (PDP). The PDP will be developed at a meeting with the Club Development Officer at which qualifications, mentoring opportunities
and personal targets will be highlighted.
At present candidates have applied from a number of clubs for support in achieving a diverse range of qualifications including: Cricket, Fitness Instructor, Rugby League, Boxercise, Handball, Female Football Referee, Cycling.
The Bursary is also supporting 3 clubs directly by running tailored courses for their volunteers at their clubs, this includes a Gymnastics proficiency award at Esprit Gymnastics, a 1st aid course for Stanningley RL and a Child Protection course for Leeds Underdogs RL club. These courses will also be opened up to other Bursary candidates and clubs from the area.
The long term aim of the scholarship is to not only provide personal development for each young leader, but also to provide a steady stream of qualified sport leaders who will use their experience by working and supporting their own community or clubs.
