Sport goes off with a bang on Bonfire weekend

Sport & Active Lifestyles in partnership with Area management, Youth Service, the Neighbourhood Policing Team and CATCH (Community Action To Change Harehills) organised three nights of activities for local children and young people living in and around the Harehills area to try combat any ASB over the bonfire weekend.

• CATCH delivered a pool and gaming tournament (PS3 / XBox) at the Hoveringham Hub to engage with young people on Saturday night.
• The group delivered a roller disco event at Ashton Park on Monday 4th Nov for young people to take part in from 6pm – 9pm. We had around 100 young people attend the roller disco event.
• The group then delivered two football tournaments on Ashton Park on Tuesday 5th November for 8- 13 yr olds and 14 – 18 yrs olds from 6pm – 9pm. We also had around 60 – 70 young people attend the football tournament.

There was also refreshments and music available throughout the evening with the youth service providing their mobile van to provide children and young people with the opportunities to discuss any issues they may be facing – Sexual health issues or general health issues.

Parents, guardians and other residents were very pleased with all the activities available for the local children and young people over the bonfire weekend.

Cllr Roger Harington praised the working group in organising the activities for children and young people over the Bonfire weekend in Harehills.
